We Make It Easy to be Green

When people think of weddings they think of the beauty and love that make once-in-a-lifetime memories. What they DON’T think about is all the energy and materials that go into making that special day, and where those materials go when the day is over.

But we DO think about that.

We know that the event industry, and specifically floral design, often requires extensive land, water, and fossil fuel use. We know that many of the materials used to create conventional floral decor are poisonous to both land and people. We know that flowers that traditionally end up in a dumpster after a wedding could easily bring joy to many more people, and then be productively composted.

We know all these things and we do something about it.

Taking good care of the earth is a top priority in our sourcing, production, and clean up process. We use local flowers during the Midwest growing season to support local farms and reduce shipping energy. Our delivery vehicle is fuel efficient and we use Earth friendly cleaning supplies. When you book us, all contracts will be signed electronically to reduce waste, and we’ll work with you to create a design with our avant-garde collection of reusable vases. We also offer a donation service of to repurpose your leftover event flowers to local organizations like Random Acts of Flowers who then brings them to nursing homes and hospitals. And lastly, we send all our scraps get composted.

There are so many ways to make change- some big and some small- but we always try to do our part to make your once-in-a-lifetime night make a lifetime of difference.

Eco+Elegant Spring Wedding

Erika and Doug’s wedding took place on one of the first bright spring days in April. Their ceremony and reception at Greenhouse Loft was full of natural light, soft floral decor, and lots of love from family and friends.

The bouquets contained fresh spring peonies, roses, sweet pea, orchids, ranunculus, and eucalyptus. The blush, ivory, and pale yellow floral added an organic feel to the ceremony, and accented the bridemaids’ mauve dresses. The men wore ivory spray rose boutonnieres with just a touch of greenery.

Glass bud vases with roses, stock, sweet pea, orchids and ranunculus lined the windows during the ceremony. These flowers beautifully framed the couple as they said “I do”, and then were repurposed as centerpieces during dinner to add an eclectic, natural look to the tabletops. Soft candle lighting lit the room as the couple danced the night away and started their lives together in style!

The beautiful pictures in this gallery were taken by Jamie & Eric Photography. Thanks to them, the couple, and the entire vendor team for creating such a beautiful day!

Just Peachy- A wedding at Greenhouse Loft

This wedding started off as a phone call between the mother of the bride and myself.  Annie's mom is a florist in Texas.  She knew that she wanted to relax at her daughter's wedding so she would have to entrust the flowers to someone else for the day.  I was so honored (and a bit nervous, eek!) to be chosen for this!  Pressure is on, right?  It's a florist's daughter!!

We all met for the first time at the hotel on the morning of Annie and Rob's wedding and I was received with huge hugs!  As I was walking out I looked at my phone and saw the most relieving text from the mother of the bride. " OMG!!!!! The bouquets are STUNNING!!!!!! Love them!!!!!! It was so great to meet you!!!!!". Phew!!

This was a mid September wedding, a perfect month for flowers here in the Midwest.  We incorporated some gorgeous white dahlias, queen anne's lace, ranunculus. scabiosa pods, millet, spray roses and my favorite... garden roses.  Half of the centerpieces were cube vases filled with lush floral and the other half were floating candles in clear cylinder vases.....a very romantic look indeed.

Their venue, Greenhouse Loft, is located in the Green Exchange building in Logan Square and is one of the most sustainable event spaces in Chicago. The space has beautiful natural light and a landscaped outdoor terrace for the summer months.  They also have in-house photographers to capture everything.  Thank you Jamie from  Greenhouse Loft Photography, for providing these stellar pictures!
